Before my travel entries go by the way of my Camiguin entry (that I haven’t been able to write until now), I’ll be posting my Bora entry. I ended up liking Boracay more than I thought I would.
When Jette and I arrived on the island, it was just barely ahead of a storm. Her cousin, Sandra and Sandra’s husband, Michael met us at the pier and gave us directions as to how to get to our resort. We stayed at a small place called Sandra’s which is about three minutes away from the beach front at Station One. I was wearing jeans and was stepping on the hem every step of the way, and with the white, powdery sand, it made from an uncomfortable walk from D Mall. The wind was cold and the sky was dark. I love stormy beaches, but not while I’m wearing jeans.
Anyhoo, we checked in at Sandra’s, and I changed out of my jeans and travel clothes into a dress and slippers, and we were off on my first day in rainy, stormy Boracay.

Highlights of the trip:
- sending postcards to Kat at their visitors center whatchamacallit
- getting a henna tattoo while Jette gets her hair braided
- yummy crepes at Ti Braz, an army navy sandwich and banana chocolate shakes at Jonah’s, eat-all-you can Mongolian dinner, and dinner at Cyma. Parang ‘pag food naaalala ko sila lahat no?

- having a whole pitcher of Mangojitos at the Sand Bar while watching fire dancers, and laughing at the littlest thing while walking home

- visiting the Shangri La Hotel and wondering what it would be like to be able to afford a villa (42K a night, baby!)
- taking a quick dip and feeling like a SEAL on surf training because the water was effin’ cold and the waves were really high
- rain, rain, rain…. more rain…

And I did say I wanted to take a break from my Sentinels before writing again. Since I’m stuck on various stages of writing on three of the next manuscripts, I want to write my Boracay story first (more than a year in the making).
We were supposed to travel back to Dumaguete that Saturday but I asked Jette if we could stay for one more day, which was why we went on a marathon travel Sunday. I always thought I just want to go to Boracay, see it, then say,”ah, yeah, I like this beach more” and so on. I didn’t expect to want to go back there, but yeah, I do. Maybe not during the summer or the super peak days, but when it’s more quiet and less busy… maybe at a time when it rains less too.
Jette, again, thank you for the bestest birthday gift
