Boo!

“Halloween (also spelled Hallowe’en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints. It is largely a secular celebration but some have expressed strong feelings about perceived religious overtones.

The colours black and orange have become associated with the celebrations, perhaps because of the darkness of night and the colour of fire or of pumpkins, and maybe because of the vivid contrast this presents for merchandising. Another association is with the jack-o’-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.” ~ Wikipedia

Happy Halloween!

First Glimpse of the Ibarra Legacy

Okay, so it’s not exactly my first glimpse, but it is the first pic of the Ibarra Legacy, thank you to my bestie, Kat. So funny! I’ll write a more decent blog entry on the matter but lemme just tell you the story on how they found the series.

I was standing outside Booksale, SM Megamall with Richelle, Allan and X, waiting for Kat who was still inside, buying books. When she came out, she rushed forward and lifted her package saying “tignan mo!” and I saw my name on the book. Natulala ako ng three seconds siguro bago ako tumawa then she hugged me and the rest of our friends rushed inside Booksale again to get their copies.

I had no idea what happened inside the bookstore because I went outside again after a while pero pinakyaw nila yung Ibarra Legacy ko haha I really love my friends… and not only because they read everything I write, but because I just love them. Sana we get to see each other more often.

Oh, yeah! Allan and X are THE Allan and X in Waiting to Fall hehe And Kat and Richelle are in one of my future releases.

Seven Days to NaNoWriMo 2009

It’s only a week before November, which means we only have seven days before NaNoWriMo!

NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is what I’ve been doing every year for the past two years on November. It’s when people (writers, professional or not, talented or not hehe) all over the world write like crazy for thirty days to finish a 50,000-word novel.

There’s no price. You don’t win any money (except some icons and pride that you’ve finished a 50,000-word novel in a month). But I join every year just to prove to myself that I can do it.

Your novel doesn’t even have to be good. You don’t even need to edit it before the end of November. It might be crap, full of loopholes, and will never see the light of day in the bookstore but that’s not the point of NaNoWriMo. The point is… WRITING 50,000 WORDS FOR A NOVEL AND ENJOYING IT. That’s it.

I’ve only been doing it for two years and I crossed the finish line both times. Yay!

My online novel started as a NaNoWriMo entry in 2007. I finished 50,000 words but didn’t finish the novel. The finished novel is currently a little over 60,000 words. In 2008, I finished 50,000 words again, but not the novel. My 2008 entry is supposed to be a three-part series (even in English, I like writing series), and I started the last book. Fifty thousand words were enough to write several adventures of the eight main characters… I write really, really long stories in English :D

I still don’t have a plan as to what to write for NaNo 2009, but I never plan them anyway. I’m thinking that I should write two-and-a-half Tagalog novellas and submit it to my publisher in December. Hit several birds with one NaNoWriMo stone :D

Want to be my Writing Buddy? My NaNo ID is akra_athena. I’m soooo excited. Can’t wait for November.

Bookware’s October Release

Wahey! Andito na ang October release! I received a couple of text messages from Edith Joaquin and my bunsoy, Bernice, saying that my series has already been posted at the Bookware site. I wasn’t able to check because I currently have a very crappy Internet connection at home, and I didn’t haul my latop to the mall yesterday because I had to meet Carla Giopaolo and our editor, Malou, for a project that we’d be working on together.

Anyway, this is an awesome, awesome birthday/anniversary gift ^_^ I got my first acceptance letter two years ago from Apple on October 19th, and then! Malou greeted me a happy birthday and said that her birthday gift to me is the news that my MS#9 and 10 have been accepted! And she said she liked Sa Kanya Pa Rin! *cry*

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for all the blessings.

My Special Valentine October 2009

The Ibarra Legacy (Book 1 of 4): Playing For Keeps
Elise Estrella

“Alam mo, tuwing magsasalita ka, nadadagdagan ang inis ko sa ’yo,” nakairap na sabi ni Mios kay Dominic, ang lalaking napili ng kanyang pakialamerong ama para mapangasawa niya. “Kung meron lang akong choice, ikaw ang huling lalaking pakakasalan ko.”

“You know what,” napahalukipkip na sagot nito, “I think you’re scared of me because you might end up liking me.”

“Masyadong mataas ang tingin mo sa sarili mo.”

“Care to bet on that?”

There was confidence in Dominic’s eyes at siyempre, hindi siya patatalo. “Pag nauna kang ma-in love sa akin, ibibigay mo ang Ibarra Suites sa Ortigas.”

“If not, ibibigay mo sa ’kin Elysian Makati,” tugon nito.

Nagngitian sila; both playing to win….

The Ibarra Legacy (Book 2 of 4): Waiting To Fall
Elise Estrella

The Ibarra Legacy (Book 3 of 4): Learning To Breathe
Elise Estrella

Soon, he realized he was falling in love with his best friend. And everything in the world turned beautiful—aba, he found his match in Georgina, naisahan niya pa ang lolo niya.

The Ibarra Legacy (Book 4 of 4): Raising The Stakes
Elise Estrella

“Alam mo, gusto ko lang ikasal. Gusto ko ’yung wedding gown, ’yung flowers saka ’yung guwapong groom. Pero ayoko n’ung what comes after. Madali ang ikasal, pero mahirap ang mag-asawa.”

Matagal na tahimik si Benedict bago nagsalita, “Will you marry me?” Napakurap siya. “Sabi mo, you want a wedding but not a marriage. I can give you that. We’re here in Vegas. We can have a fake wedding,” paglilinaw nito. “See? The wedding without the marriage. Para ma-experience mong magpakasal.”

Katuwaan lang nila iyon, dala lang ng alcohol na nainom. Akalain ba naman nina Benedict at Sabrina na legal at binding pala ang kasalan nila?
