Review: Noli at Fili Dekada 2000 (Dos Mil)

noli-fili-posterMy fellow MSV writer, Carla Giopaolo kindly sent me tickets to watch Nicanor Tiongson’s Noli at Fili Dekada 2000 (directed by Soxie Topacio) at the PETA Theater Center. It’s been years since I last saw a play, and even longer since I last read Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. While I diligently read both novels in high school, I did so because I needed to, and not because I wanted to, which took out the fun in reading it.

And while I took binder paper-full of notes on both novels, I can’t say that I really, really understood what Jose Rizal wanted me to see. Yes, I studied the plot and the characters and the symbolizations, and read beneath the surface, but, as I was in high school and, sadly, couldn’t care any less for anything other than the latest single released by my favorite boyband or when the next sleepover at my friend’s house would be, I’m afraid Rizal’s message didn’t really reach me.

Until I watched this play.

Hard Times

Yesterday, I told Yumi that I was working on three manuscripts, and I was… am… literally. I have three .doc files opened at the moment and I’m working on them simultaneously because my mind won’t stay put in one story. My problem is I feel that not one of the three stories are progressing.

Unlike with my other novellas, where writing may be synonymous to bleeding over the keyboard, but at least the story went smoothly. With these three, I want to delete pages and pages of them every few minutes because I feel like they’re not taking off. Parang gusto ko na lang ibasura yung tatlo, but the thing is, all three of them are already 11K+ words long, and I’ve already invested hours and hours on all three of them. Naisip ko lang, hindi ko man tanggapin yung mga kwento, I can re-purpose the chapters, so I should still keep them.

Out of the three, Charmed by You is the most cooperative. But I just re-read it and thought kulang siya sa lasa. It’s a bit bland, with scenes that are flat.

Sa Kanya Pa Rin and Ikaw Na Pala are both like puzzles. I can’t decide when to start the story. Both couples have a “past” before the scene where I feel like the story is suppossed to start, but the thing is, I can’t decide whether to put their past in the book, or just start with their now. Susko, nahihirapan ako. And they had the audacity to want to be written all at the same time, ha! Buti sana if they’re like Raising the Stakes and Each Day With You. Both had concrete stories and characters that were sure of themselves.

Hay, naku. I think I’m gonna junk writing these for now and just watch Transformers again *pfft*

Lazy Sunday Morning

My days and nights are bleeding into each other these days that I don’t have a concept of time anymore. Anyway, yesterday, we went to the mall so I can satisfy my craving for French Baker Chicken ala King, which I didn’t get to eat, because we ended up eating at Sbarro (although I still love Baked Ziti with meat sauce and meatballs, yum).

I wanted to get myself a copy of Angel Bautista’s To Love Again but NBS SM Megamall didn’t have it yet which made me extremely disappointed. NBS made up for it though because I found a stack of Vic’s scary Death Mark which I haven’t even attempted to read. It’s enough that I see shadows walking without provocation, I didn’t want to encourage my super-hyper imagination by adding visuals to it.

So, I have my work cut out for me today:

1. work
2. update blog/Multiply (oh, I already found a pic of Crescent Heart hehe want a scanner tuloy)
3. read Death Mark (when every one’s awake)
4. go on house-training two-month old Chihuahua-mix that has no respect for carpets… or slippers
5. eat. Haven’t eaten since last night.
6. FINISH EACH DAY WITH YOU MS! I finally finished fixing the loopholes while tossing and turning in bed last night. Which is why I switched my lappie on in the first place. Ewan ko ba kung baket ako online.

How’s your Sunday?
