Mutual Admiration Na Ito

I think Miss Yumi Sagara may just be one of the sweetest people. She wrote this touching and very happy entry on her Multiply site.

Sobrang nahihiya ako sa ibang MSV writers because I’ve always thought of them as the “real writers”. Alam mo yun? Alam mo yung feeling na bagong writer ka pa lang tapos sila mga diyosa na sa publishing LOL That’s how I feel among these talented ladies. Then we started to make friends and I learned that they’re all friendly, warm and wonderful. I love the Internet :D

Thank you for your friendship, Miss Yumi! And thanks for making me feel special ^_^

Anong Masama sa Nagbabasa ng Tagalog?

annoyeddogYesterday, while I was browsing through books at a secondhand bookstore, I heard a girl say “si ate nga nag-babasa ng Tagalog eh”, in a tone filled with laughter (and not the nice kind). Naisip ko, bakit? Anong masama sa nag-babasa ng Tagalog?

Honestly, I’m not addicted to Tagalog romance novels. I don’t buy them, and I rarely read them. Not because I think they’re “jologs”, but because, at sana huwag niyo masamain, nahihirapan ako mag-basa ng Tagalog. Bookware has a whole cache of extremely talented people. I’ve read books by my fellow Bookware writers, and those stories are the  reasons why I tried writing for Bookware myself. Hindi ako sosyal, pero inglisera talaga ako. Which is why it came as a surprise that I can write in Filipino, and write well enough to get published.

I read quite a few Tagalog novels, and most of them were really good. And now that I write them, I realized just how hard it is to work on a novel. I know the hours that a writer spends, bent over a keyboard, wrists, shoulders and back aching. I know the worry that the story might not make the editor’s cut, and the worry that even if it does, the people who read that story might not enjoy them as much as the author hopes.

Readers don’t really realize the toil, tears, blood and sweat. To a reader, the story could either be good or bad. They don’t really think about the hours that go into a book. Goes to show their ignorance.

Bakit? Yun ang gusto nila eh. Walang pakialamanan.

Would You Read a Horror/Romance Story?

I’m currently writing two Tagalog novellas simultaneously. One is the story of Anton and Georgina, and the other is a horror-slash-paranormal romance story of a group of fallen angels and three human women (yung story na napapraning ako with Sharon).

Now I’m just wondering, would you read a horror/romance story? I don’t watch horror movies because I hate being afraid, and I’m scared now that I’m going to be writing something extremely corny.

It’s going well though, and my friend Kat (who gets a starring role in the book) and I are thinking of titles. I suck at titles. Anyway, I’m sure it’ll click. I want to finish it as soon as possible so I can start writing the second one. Of course I have to see if it gets accepted by Bookware, too hehe. Another worry.

Oh, well. I’m still waiting for Crescent Heart. Tagal eh.

Are you?

Submitted New Manuscript

Supposed to be working on something else, but everytime I check my e-mail and Twitter, I get distracted from what I’m really supposed to do :p

Anyway, I just finally, finally submitted Waiting to Fall to Miss Apple.

Working Title: Waiting to Fall
Words: 25,782
Chapters: 16
Pages: 97
Finished: February 7, 2009
Submitted: March 6, 2009

The title of the story is from the song “Ready and Waiting to Fall” by the band Mae.

You haven’t met the characters yet though. The first book in the Ibarra series will come out after Noah’s, so there’s a bit of a wait.

Anyway, I’m just happy I finally got to edit it and submit it. I’m thinking I want to do this full time but since I’m lazy… :p

Hope you’re all doing well :)
