Bare-Naked

I’m in bed, typing on my beloved new baby while waiting for my turn on the Internet connection. I just finished reading Book 2 in my Callantas series, and there were a few things that I noticed.

Nicko’s story is the first. It was the first book in the Callanta series, supposedly the first book that I submitted and my first published novelette. I was stuck half-way through it when Nathan started to tell me his story which was why Nicko was relagated to number two status, and was on hold for a couple of months before I was able to finally finish him. Everybody says that your first novel is autobiographical, and although mine aren’t, not really, I realized that I put myself in the books too much. People who know me will recognize bits and pieces of me in my characters. In their favorite food or color, in the places they want to see, in things they want to do. When I read Inosenteng Puso, I felt naked and exposed because Bethany had a lot of things in common with me. I felt even more so with Rebecca who is the FIRST, my prototype character… who is me. But then again, who would know that but me? And the people who know me? And you who are reading this entry because I told you so…

I also noticed that out of the three books that I have already submitted, Nicko’s is the one with the least number of errors for me (Cedric, being written the fastest, has the most… which I wish the editors will catch and edit before they publish). I remember being more meticulous and OC with Nicko, which was why I only noticed two or three errors in the finished book. There were a few things that I missed in Nathan’s, but Cedric’s… urgh! I really hope someone OC would edit it. I only read through it twice, and only had the first ten chapters beta’d, which was why I wanted to throw it away and rewrite the whole thing. But I do love Cedric. Having written him for only about two weeks, I’m quite proud of him.

Now, Noah… is extremely slowly coming along. Sure, because I just have a fulltime writing job, a freelance job, and a fanfiction that is nagging at me to be finished, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t work on Noah’s story. I do have five chapters going and the outline is done, but still… it’s taking time. I do wish I can just write fiction full time.
